And although no one was injured in the incident at Kinoulton Primary School, its head teacher believes it "could have been a lot worse".
He told Nottinghamshire Live: "All I can say is it was lunchtime yesterday and some of the children were outside, most of them were inside, fortunately.
"We've got quite a big grounds and the dogs mostly just ran across our field entering from one side and then they exited from the other side.
"So most of them just ran straight through and then there were a couple of them that were just hanging around.
"I've no idea why they were anywhere near the school at all because if they're doing a trail hunt I don't know why there's any need for them to come near the school.
"There are people that have been here a lot longer than me who have never known a hunt come anywhere near a primary school.

He was forced to call the police after the incident on Monday - and cops have now spoken to the owners of the dog.
The head added: "Obviously we called 999 straight away and by the time the police had come they were gone - they weren't here for very long and all the children were inside.
"The staff were brilliant and safeguarded the children straight away.
"We're very fortunate that the children weren't upset. Nothing was damaged.
"But it could've been worse.
"I went out to the street and I tried to challenge them and ask them what on earth they were doing near a primary school with dogs but they didn't want to stop and talk."
Inspector Rob Lawton said: “We received reports of an incident at Kinoulton Primary School, Kinoutlon, yesterday (Monday 7 February) at around 12.25pm.
“Officers quickly responded to reports of three dogs being on the school premises and the owners were swiftly located and the issue resolved.
“No one was injured during the incident but we do understand how distressing it was for the children and people involved.
“We would like to reassure everyone that we have spoken with the school and made them aware that officers have spoken with the owners of the dogs to resolve the issue and make sure it never happens again.”
