KOTA KINABALU: The 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) is seen as a dedication to help less developed states, especially Sabah and Sarawak, says Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili.

       The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) said that there was much focus given on less developed states, as well as outstanding claims under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

       “The Prime Minister's assurance to resolve outstanding issues and claims stipulated under the MA63 shows that the Federal Government means business in resolving perennial development and basic needs problems faced by Sabah and Sarawak,” he said in responding to the 12MP tabled in Parliament on Monday (Sept 27).

       "The development funds dedicated to less developed states, especially Sabah and Sarawak, are refreshing,” Ongkili said.

       He said never before in previous Malaysia Plans that such focus on Sabah and Sarawak and the MA63 were given.

       "Development issues of MA63 are among the focus in PM's speech, and he did say he will personally be involved in monitoring implementation plans on Sabah and Sarawak," he said.

       Ongkili noted that the Sabah and Sarawak Affairs Division (BHESS) will soon set up a joint monitoring unit with the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) to ensure infrastructure implementation plans are followed through and acted upon, in accordance with MA63 development goals.
