A waitress at the Tenerife nightclub Jay Slater partied at hours before he disappeared on June 17 says she gave him water for free as he looked unwell.

Video appeared to show Jay, 19, staggering back to his feet after falling over at Papagayo nightclub in Playa de las Americas, and a hostess at the venue now says she was concerned about the apprentice bricklayer.

Speaking to The Sun she said: "I remembered Jay, because he was unstable on his feet. I gave him some water for free as he didn't look well."

Water at the club normally costs three euros, the outlet reports. The unnamed worker said she was upset when it emerged Slater had vanished.

"I remembered him, my boyfriend called me in the morning and said he was missing," she said. "I recognised his picture straight away. I feel so sad, it feels very close to home as I am his age as well. I feel so much for his family."

Slater is thought to have stayed till the early hours before travelling in a hire car with two British men to their Airbnb in the rural village of Masca, which is about an hour away from the venue.

Spanish police investigating the teenager's disappearance later said they had spoken to the two men and that they are “not relevant” to the case, Sky News reports.

Later on the morning of his disappearance, he left the Masca let aiming to catch a bus back to his own accomodation, later attempting to navigate his way on foot - a journey which would have taken him 11 hours.

In a call to his friend Lucy at around 8am, he told her the battery on his phone was nearly dead that he was thirsty.

A huge search effort was launched after he was reported missing at 9.04am, with authorities zeroing in on a region within Rural de Teno park where the signal from Jay's mobile phone was last located.

After a fortnight of scouring the area the Civil Guard, which was leading the search, suspended their operation without success.

The teen's family, including older brother Zak, 24, rushed to Tenerife after he was reported missing and are continuing the search along with various volunteers.

Private investigator and ex-Metropolitan police detective Mark Williams-Thomas has flown the island to assist the family and is sharing regular updates.
