PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim is the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to the appointment, which will take effect on June 25 (Friday).
Mazlan, 59, is currently serving as Bukit Aman Logistics and Technology Department director, a post which he has held since September last year.
Prior to that, he was the Kuala Lumpur police chief.
The Alor Star-born Mazlan’s appointment ends speculation on who among the country's senior police officers will be promoted to the position.
The number two post has been empty since Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani was promoted to the top cop post on May 4.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin presented Mazlan with his appointment letter on Friday.
Also present were Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Mohamed Said and senior officials from the Home Ministry.
