PETALING JAYA: Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has issued a letter of demand (LOD) to Bersatu member Badrul Hisham Shaharin (Chegubard) over his statement on flood mitigation projects.

       The Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister wants an immediate retraction and open apology for the statement which, he said, contained defamatory elements.

       "It is a serious case of defamation which needs firm legal action to protect my good name and reputation and also that of the ministry and the Federal Government," he said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 28).

       "Our commitment to uphold the truth and correct misperception remains firm following the baseless accusations.

       "With this legal action, we confirm our dedication to integrity and compliance with the process of law."

       Nik Nazmi said at the same time, he welcomed any investigation by the police on the accusations made by Badrul Hisham, who alleged there were elements of corruption in the flood mitigation project nationwide.

       Badrul Hisham claimed the project cost had ballooned to RM16.6bil and involved companies and unknown individuals that received commissions as proxies for the minister, and lodged a police report on the matter on Dec 20.

       In response, Nik Nazmi described the allegations as baseless and malicious and said he would take legal action against Badrul Hisham.
