SHAH ALAM: Water levels at seven dams in Selangor are stable despite the ongoing heatwave, says state infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Izham Hashim.

He said that three dams are at 85% capacity, with the rest above 90%.

"No dams are at critical level. If water levels drop below the 70% critical level, we will take precautionary measures.

"El Nino effects in Selangor are likely occur around June. Currently, we're still experiencing rainfall and water levels remain steady," he told reporters at the Wisma Dewan Negeri Selangor lobby here on Friday (March 1).

On Thursday (March 1), the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in a statement said that alert-level hot weather was recorded in 21 areas across the country, including in Sepang, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

The alert level refers to a daily maximum temperature of 35°C to 37°C for at three consecutive days.

MetMalaysia previously said that the country is in the final phase of the North-east Monsoon, with reduced rainfall is expected in the northern peninsula resulting in hotter and drier conditions. – Bernama
