GOMBAK: Police are calling on Nur Sajat's family to convince the cosmetic entrepreneur who is in Thailand, to return.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said he was confident Nur Sajat's family could persuade the 36-year-old to come back home.
"Nur Sajat should come back to Malaysia and face pending legal proceedings," he told a press conference at Gombak police headquarters on Friday (Sept 24).
Comm Abd Jalil said the police are in the midst of applying for Nur Sajat's extradition.
"The process involved the Attorney-General's Chambers, the Foreign Ministry and embassy," he added.
Nur Sajat, whose birthname is Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruz Zaman, was detained by Thai Immigration for possessing an invalid passport, he added.
"Nur Sajat, who is currently using the nickname Bella, has managed to obtain a UNHCR card.
"He is waiting for an offer from another country for asylum," he said.
It was reported that Malaysia and Thailand had an extradition treaty.
"The application (to extradite) will be made in the near future," said Comm Abd Jalil.
Nur Sajat, who was wanted for multiple offences in Malaysia, was detained by Thai Immigration at about 6pm on Sept 8.
