KOTA KINABALU: Contraband worth more than RM1mil was seized and three people were arrested in three raids in Beluran, about 250km from the state capital.
General Operations Force (GOF) commander for Sabah Senior Asst Comm Mohd Abduh Ismail said in the first raid, they found cigarettes and alcohol worth RM322, 275 at a sundry shop in the Botition area.
“Two caretakers in the shop aged 17 and 43 were detained, ” he said, adding that the operation started on Tuesday based on public tip-offs.
The operation continued at a house in Kampung Cenderamata, Telupid, occupied by a 63-year-old.
“We found alcohol and cigarettes worth RM608, 103 there and detained the suspect, ” said SAC Mohd Abduh.
At the third location in Kampung Basai Baru, Botition, GOF personnel tried calling for the person in charge to open a storage unit.
“After waiting for half an hour without any response, they went in, ” he said, adding that contraband valued at RM123, 427 was seized there.The seized items from the raids are worth over RM1mil.
