An Uber driver said he was carjacked at gunpoint after responding to a request for a ride from a customer in Oak Park the night of June 21, police said.
Police said the driver, a Chicago resident, drove to the 500 block of Highland Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. after a customer requested a ride through the Uber app.
When the driver arrived, he met a man with a thin build and short, black hair who was wearing black shorts and no shirt, police said. The man then displayed a handgun and ordered the driver to exit his 2017 Hyundai Sonata, police said.
The Uber driver complied and the man then entered the car and drove away east on Madison Street from Highland Avenue, police said. Total estimated loss is $10,000.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Oak Park Police Department at 708-386-3800. Crime tips may also be provided anonymously at 708-434-1636 or online at www.oak-park.us/crimetip.
