KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s total trade for January surged 24.8% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM203bil, with exports soaring 23.5% to RM110.7bil and imports climbing 26.4% to RM92.3bil.
Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said exports of electrical and electronics (E&E) products amounted to RM44.8bil (40.4% of total exports).
“Penang recorded the highest exports of E&E products worth RM26.2bil (58.5%), followed by Selangor with exports worth RM6bil (13.3%), and Johor at RM4.8bil (10.7%),” he said in a statement yesterday. The export value recorded in January increased RM21.1bil (23.5%) compared with the same month of the previous year while imports also increased RM19.3bil (26.4%) in January compared with the same month of the previous year.
