PETALING JAYA: Police ordered three lorries carrying aid arranged by celebrity preacher Ebit Lew to turn back at a roadblock in Bentong on Tuesday (July 20) morning because they did not have the required documentation for travel, Sinar Harian reported.

Bentong OCPD Supt Zalham Mohd Kahar was quoted by the Malay portal as saying that the three lorries ferrying aid to the East coast did not abide by SOP set by the National Security Council.

"In the 1.30am incident, the lorry was on its way to Kuantan, Terengganu and Kelantan.

"According to NSC SOPs, any NGOs must obtain approval from the state disaster management department for disaster relief movement or humanitarian missions.

"The lorries did not have documents for that purpose and were ordered to turn back," he said.

Supt Zalham said all drivers followed the authorities' subsequent instructions and no fines were issued.

Ebit had recently uploaded a 26-second video on Instagram saying that there would be 10 lorries sending out basic necessities across Malaysia to aid people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
