SEREMBAN: Parti Amanah Negara should be allowed to defend the Lenggeng seat in the Aug 12 state polls but will accept any decision made by Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

       The Amanah president said the party was prepared to defend the seat which he described as "winnable".

       "We want to defend the seat but will hear what our chairman (Anwar) has to say. So far, he (Anwar) hasn't told me anything," he said when met at an event organised by the National Farmers Organisation (Nafas) here.

       Mohamad said he would meet leaders from parties in the unity government Friday night (July 21) and a decision would be made.

       "Whatever decisions (on seat distribution) taken by Anwar and Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Barisan Nasional chairman) are final.

       "Amanah will make a final appeal (on Lenggeng) and let us see what the outcome is," he said.

       On Wednesday (July 19), Negri Sembilan Amanah chief Datuk MK Ibrahim Abdul Rahman asked the Pakatan presidential council to support its bid to defend the seat.

       He said this was crucial following Umno's claim that its candidate would be representing the unity government in the constituency won by Amanah in the 2018 General Election.

       He said Amanah had been a "loyal friend" to Pakatan and the party should not be neglected.

       On July 15, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan announced that Barisan would be contesting 17 seats in the state election.

       These include the 16 seats it won in the last general election as well as Lenggeng.

       In the 2018 polls, Amanah won the Lenggeng, Paroi and Klawang seats.
