KUALA LUMPUR: Police officers and personnel working in the field will be tested on their level of integrity or compliance, especially involving hot spot assignments, to combat corruption.
Bukit Aman Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance (JIPS) director Datuk Azri Ahmad said the integrity test included observation, monitoring and impersonating involving police officers going undercover.
Among the hot spot assignments are the manning of roadblocks, patrolling, motorcycle patrol unit and as investigating officer.
“Besides increasing public confidence in the police, the implementation of the integrity test will help in eliminating opportunities and the chances for corruption to occur among personnel and officers.
“In our efforts to eliminate corruption, JIPS will also empower its discipline and drug control system (SKDD) which was introduced in 1979,” he told Bernama recently.
SKDD is a systematic regulatory and supervisory instrument to monitor lifestyle, property ownership and negative activities, including drug abuse, corruption, gambling, vice and any breach of code of conduct.
JIPS, said Azri, would continue to monitor the implementation of SKDD to ensure every member of the police force avoid negative activities.
“JIPS wants police officers and personnel to stay away from corruption – not out of fear of the legal action and regulations but because of self-awareness,” he said.
He added that JIPS would continue to work with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to design capital development training module on integrity, especially for trainees undergoing basic police training at training centres.
