Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer would take Britain back to the 1970s era of trade unions calling the shots, Tories warned.
Common Sense Minister Esther McVey hit out at the “socialist madness” of councils and civil servants demanding to work fewer hours for the same pay.

She warned that victory for Sir Keir at the general election would lead to the “Withdrawal of Labour Party” running the country.
Writing for the Daily Express, Ms McVey said: “Mark my words, the trade unions are calling the shots over Labour. Since 2010 they have funded the Labour Party to the tune of £134m and the Labour leader Keir Starmer has personally accepted £81,000 since Jan 2020.

"Combine this with the workers' rights legislation Labour are planning to bring in, and we’ll be back to the 1970s - industrial strife, a collapse in productivity and being the sick man of Europe.”

South Cambridgeshire District Council has been testing the idea of the shorter working week for a year despite the government giving it an official warning to drop the plan.
Last month, the PCS union demanded a “significant shortening of the working week” for civil servants but no loss of pay.
Ms McVey said growing demands for a four day week are bad for business and bad for the taxpayers covering the pay of civil servants.
She added: “Turning the country back to the bad old days of union dominance with a weak Labour leader appeasing them is the last thing the country needs. In fact it is something from which we may never recover."

Elliot Keck, head of campaigns at the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: "Taxpayers have simply had enough of the public sector clock off.
"Too many bureaucrats from Whitehall to town halls are making a mockery of the hard working Brits who pay their wages.
"It's time that ministers put an end to calls for a part-time public sector."
