Slight dip in ICU bed occupancy nationwide

       PETALING JAYA: The occupancy rate at intensive care units (ICUs) in seven states, including Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, were over 50% as at Wednesday, down from eight states the day before.

       Putrajaya was highest at 67%, followed by Perlis (64%), Kelantan (60%), Johor (59%), Kuala Lumpur (58%), Sabah (55%), Melaka (53%), Selangor (51%), and Penang (50%).

       As for Covid-19 Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC), only Melaka has an occupancy rate of above 50%, at 61%, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

       He added that bed usage at non-ICU wards were above 50% in Selangor (113%), Kuala Lumpur (106%), Perak (102%), Kelantan (93%), Perlis (91%), Pahang (70%), Putrajaya (67%), Johor (66%), Sarawak (64%), Penang (61%), and Sabah (53%).

       “As at March 2, the number of Covid-19 hospitalised cases was 1,841. From this, 677 cases were in Categories 3,4 and 5 while 1,164 cases were in Categories 1 and 2,” he said in a statement yesterday.

       Dr Noor Hisham also said there were 27,500 new cases, which brings the total cumulative cases to 3,496,090, along with 27,557 recoveries.

       Of the new cases reported, 189 (0.69%) were in Categories 3, 4, and 5; while the remaining 27,311 (99.31%) were in Categories 1 and 2.

       There were 428 imported cases involving 389 Malaysians and 39 non-Malaysians, he said.

       Of the new cases, 360 required treatment at an ICU: 139 confirmed cases and 221 suspected cases.
