       1. Victory for Sinn Fein stokes fears of a united Ireland

       Sinn Fein was on Friday night on course to be the biggest party in Stormont following Northern Ireland elections, with unionists warning the result could cost the country its place in the United Kingdom.

       The nationalist party – once the political wing of the IRA – won 29 per cent of first preference votes, according to the BBC, while the pro-UK Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) won 21 per cent. Read the full story.

       2. Sir Keir Starmer under pressure to resign after police confirm ‘beergate’ investigation

       Sir Keir Starmer was on Friday night under mounting pressure to resign after police confirmed they had launched a criminal investigation into "beergate" allegations following the receipt of "significant new information".

       Durham Constabulary will determine whether the Labour leader broke Covid regulations when he and colleagues gathered for beer and a takeaway curry at around 10pm on April 30 last year, when most indoor social gatherings were banned. Read the full story.

       3. Dogs could be causing hepatitis outbreak among children, scientists fear

       Health officials are investigating whether dogs are behind a rise in cases of hepatitis in children, it has emerged.

       The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said on Friday that the number of sudden onset hepatitis cases has jumped by 18 since last week to 163, including 11 children who have had liver transplants after their organs were badly damaged. Read the full story.

       4. ‘Vladimir Putin’s superyacht’ seized in Italy

       Italian authorities on Friday night impounded a multi-million pound superyacht that allegedly belongs to Vladimir Putin amid speculation it was about to leave the marina in which it has been berthed for months.

       Daniele Franco, the Italian economy minister, signed a decree late on Friday night that freezes any movement of the Scheherazade, a huge vessel that boasts spas, a cinema and helipads and is thought to be worth £500 million. Read the full story.

       5. Duke and Duchess of Sussex will attend the Platinum Jubilee – but they’re banished from the balcony

       They will not be seen on the Buckingham Palace balcony at the opening of the Jubilee. But they will be coming – and bringing their children too.

       In a dramatically timed announcement that surprised even some at the Palace, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on Friday confirmed that they would bring Archie and Lilibet to Britain to join the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Read the full story.
