KUCHING (Bernama): Sarawak's assessment on the transition into Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) should be based on the Covid-19 situation in its respective districts as Sarawak is a big state, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

"We want to request the Federal Government to assess Sarawak based on the Covid-19 situation and performance in each district rather than (assessment on) the state as a whole.

"(This is because) Sarawak is a very big state, as big as Peninsular Malaysia,” he said in a statement on Sunday (July 4).

On the Covid-19 vaccination process in the state, Uggah said he was confident that Sarawak would meet its target of vaccinating 2.2 million eligible people by the end of August.

Uggah, who is also the state Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman said Sarawak would constantly fine-tune its existing mechanisms to facilitate the Covid-19 vaccination exercise so that it will be more efficient and effective.

"We had even achieved 65,000 doses per day but yesterday we only did 47,679 doses. We are going to increase to 60,000 doses per day, so we really have to catch up,” he added.- Bernama
