Michael Schumacher's ex-manager reveals he doesn't speak to family: 'I made a mistake'

The manager, who teamed up with the Formula 1 driver for more than 20 years of his career, is said to have last seen his "best friend" shortly before Christmas in 2013. The final meeting between the duo came just a few days before Michael Schumacher had a tragic skiing accident.

The German Formula 1 star is believed to still be battling severe injuries he gained during the near-fatal skiing accident in the French Alps in 2013.

The driver was skiing with his son, Mick, when he fell and hit his head on a rock, causing severe brain damage.

If he had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, his injuries could have been fatal.

Since the incident, the pair who, according to Mr Weber, lived in "marriage-like circumstances" have been going their separate ways.

In an interview with RTL, Mr Weber tries to find an explanation for the separation and said: "I made a mistake!"

Mr Weber claimed he “regretted it a hundred times or a thousand times that [he] didn’t immediately board a plane to fly to the hospital” to check on the “great guy” he had previously been inseparable with.

In the RTL interview, the ex-manager referred to their estrangement and the events surrounding the incident.

He said: “Back then, I didn't get on the plane straight away and go to the hospital.

"I saw the crowd and thought, I don't have to queue there too. And that was wrong! I should have flown down immediately."

In the ex-manager's autobiography, Gasoline in the Blood, he reveals that contact with Schumacher's family still remains broken eight years on.

He writes: "To this day: no phone call, no letter. On this day of overwhelming pain, she deletes (Corinna Schumacher) me, I know that today, from her life."

Mr Weber refers to the driving pro as the "son I never had", and says that the timing after his accident left him feeling “miserable” and says he “suffered like a dog.”

When asked if he knows how the F1 legend is doing, he said: “Of course I know a little bit about how he's doing. But I don't want to talk about it. Nothing has changed for me. The condition is the same as it was eight years ago."
