Despite their apparent closeness at the unveiling of a statue to their late mother Princess Diana “distance remains” between the princes, royal author Omid Scobie claimed. Body language expert Judi James previously said that the brothers' actions showed their "deeper bonds of love" for one another.

       Mr Scobie backed this assessment while appearing on The HeirPod programme.

       He said: "I can't even imagine how powerful and maybe even overwhelming that moment must have been for them, especially in front of the cameras.

       "I think what was so great about it was that, despite the huge amount of talk about the brothers' relationship leading up to that point, in the moment itself, it didn't really feel like it was about that at all.

       "It sort of went out of the window for the moment."

       Mr Scobie claimed that it would have been "impossible" for the pair to be angry with one another during the service at Kensington Palace’s Sunken Garden.

       He said: ”No matter how you feel about someone, or how strained a relationship might be, it's impossible to still live in that when you're sharing such a special moment.

       "Those smiles that we saw on their faces were very genuine.

       "I'm sure there was a huge amount of warmth between the brothers in that moment, simply by the act of what they were doing."

       Mr Scobie co-authored the biography Finding Freedom which was accused of being highly sympathetic towards the Duke and Duchess of Sussex about their time in the Firm.

       He spoke as it was claimed that the couple could return to the UK together for the first time later this year after after leaving in March 2020.

       The Duke has returned from his Californian mansion twice since their departure - once for Prince Philip’s funeral and a second time last week for the statue’s unveiling.

       Meghan was heavily pregnant at the time of the 99-year-old Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral and following the birth of their daughter was caring for Lilibet during last week’s ceremony.

       But Nine News royal correspondent Natalie Oliveri said the former Suits actress “could” return to the UK for a visit with Harry in September.

       She said: "There are reports that Prince Harry could be coming back to the UK in just 10 weeks time in September but this time his wife Meghan could be joining him.

       "It hasn't been confirmed by the palace but this larger celebration is believed to be allowing some of Diana's friends and family to celebrate her life who couldn't attend the statue unveiling on July 1.

       "Because of Covid restrictions that ceremony was very small, it was really just Harry and his uncle and two of their aunties.

       "This larger celebration in September will allow Diana's friends and family to celebrate her life, her 60th birthday and Meghan could join her husband this time.

       "However she will still have two very small children.

       "Archie is just two and baby Lilibet was born on June 4 so it would be nice to see the Duchess of Sussex back on UK soil and it would be nice for Harry to return and spend more time with his brother.

       "There are rumours that his catch up on Thursday didn't really amount to anything, that the royal rift is still going strong."
