Gillian Sturgeon, 46, was arrested on Wednesday over an alleged incident on Saturday, August 7, police said. The mother-of-two has been released on an undertaking to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date yet to be confirmed.

       A 50-year-old man has also been arrested and charged over the same alleged incident and was also released on an undertaking to appear at the same court.

       A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A 50-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with an incident that took place within a house in Kilwinning on Saturday, August 7.

       "He was released on an undertaking to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date.

       "A full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

       "On Wednesday, August 11, a 46-year-old woman was arrested and charged following a report made on Tuesday, August 10 regarding an incident that took place within a house in Kilwinning on Saturday, August 7.

       "She has been released on an undertaking to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date.

       "A full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."

       It comes just weeks after Gillian Sturgeon flouted the Scottish Government's COVID-19 rules after sharing a photo of her travelling on a ScotRail train not wearing a face mask.

       Face masks are mandatory on public transport in Scotland.

       Ms Sturgeon also sparked a furious backlash after sharing the selfie on Facebook.

       Taking to the social media site, she said last month: “Enroute to Edinburgh.

       "Pin curls in … fingers crossed it’s good when I bring them out. Last day for liquid foundation folks.”

       However, Gillian's mum Joan pulled her up over the blunder.

       Writing back, she said: “Mask on!”

       A spokesperson for the Scottish First Minister also confirmed there had been a breach of the Scottish Government's COVID-19 rules.

       The Scottish First Minister's spokesperson added: "This was a momentary lapse of which she is now aware and will ensure it's not repeated.”
