The protestors have broken into the Exxon Mobil Oil Refinery in Fawley, Fawley and have used their pink boat — the Beverly Geronimo — to block the main entrance. Several other activists cut through an electric fence and climbed 50ft to the top of two silos. Extinction Rebellion have posted pictures of the protest on Twitter, showing activists at the top of the structures with banners that say "climate emergency￡" and "no future for fossil fuels".

       Extinction Rebellion tweeted: "Rebels are currently blocking the UK's largest oil refinery.

       "Days before #COP26, we are still demanding the government #ActNow and stop all new fossil fuel investments immediately.

       "This is a #ClimateEmergency. #StopTheHarm #RebelForLife."

       Extinction Rebellion South East UK posted a picture on Twitter of activists at the top of the refinery with the two banners.

       The social media post read: "#ExtinctionRebellion activists blockade and break into #ExxonMobil's Oil Refinery at Fawley, the largest in the UK producing 270,000 barrels of crude oil a day and supplying 20% of all UK #FossilFuels."

       Extinction Rebellion has posted a video from the top of one of the silos.

       One of the activists said: "We're here today demanding the Government bans all fossil fuel investment immediately.

       "We have three days until COP26 with the world's leaders coming together.

       "It's not good enough that this site is still up and running and indeed expanding.

       "They are intending to expand this refinery, which is already the largest one in the UK."

       But the Extinction Rebellion were brutally mocked by some on Twitter over their latest protest

       "That doesn't help your cause!"

       Matt (@GY1Matt) commented: "The clue is in the name...it's a REFINERY.

       "And you wonder why the majority of the general public - & the government - don't take you seriously?"
