Lord Adonis has sparked a fiery backlash from listeners of talkRADIO after claiming that Brexit has been a "catastrophe" for the UK. The Remain-backing peer was reflecting on Britain's current position outside the European Union with radio host James Max when he blasted the outcome of Brexit for Britain. However, his gloomy stance on where Britain has ended up was not shared by all and many Brexit supporters jumped on the chance to voice their disagreements on social media.

Lord Adonis told talkRADIO: "Most reasonable people think Brexit has been a pretty big disaster, including an increasing number of those who voted for it."

The Labour Peer went on to acknowledge that Sir Keir Starmer was failing to make a dent in the Conservative Party's lead in the polls.

Mr Adonis blamed this on the Labour Party not getting their act together.

He added that the Labour leadership "clearly needed to do better".

However, it was the Remainer's comments on Britain's achievements since leaving the EU that triggered an angry response on social media.

"When catastrophe and Adonis are mentioned in the same sentence you equate the two quite easily.

"No need to mention Brexit, that’s coming along fine," said one person.

"Adonis is in his own little fantasy world and I recommend you leave him there," added another.

Another user said: "Most reasonable people think Adonis is a disaster."

Others seemed to agree, with one remarking: "He's a typical sore loser venting his petulance."

"Adonis has no idea what reasonable people think," said one listener.

"Brexit will be good for the future of the UK."

Elsewhere a person asked: "Why is it news that a staunch Remainer like Adonis says Brexit was a catastrophe!"

"Aww bless, he just can't get over it, can he," penned another.

One Brexiteer commented to say they were still "delighted" the UK left.

They wrote: "Personally, I think more people think it’s been better than they were warned and after the way the EU leaders have been so pathetic towards us that I am delighted we left."
