PETALING JAYA: Datin Seri Nor Zamani Abdol Hamid has been appointed Education director-general.
Her tenure officially began on June 22, the Education Ministry said in a statement on Friday (July 2).
She takes over from Datuk Dr Habibah Abdul Rahim, who retired on April 5.
Nor Zamani was previously the Education deputy director-general (policy and curriculum).
“The 59-year-old is the 18th Education director-general and third woman appointed to the role.
“She began her service in the education sector in 1986 as Kolej Tunku Kurshiah, Negri Sembilan, A-Level department head.
“She has served in various organisations within the ministry in her 35 years of service.
“Among the positions she has held include Education deputy director-general (policy and curriculum), Curriculum Development Division director and Private Education Division director,” the ministry added.
Nor Zamani is a Sociology and Anthropology graduate and holds a master’s in education from Universiti Malaya, the statement said.
“We are confident that she will be able to carry out her responsibilities as a leader in the education sector and further improve the ministry’s performance in achieving the country’s education aspirations,” the ministry added.
