SUNGAI PETANI: A 25-year-old man has been detained for allegedly sending threatening and abusive messages to Kedah Mentri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor via Facebook Messenger.
Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Adzli Abu Shah said the suspect, who works as an IT analyst, was arrested in Taiping at about 12.15am on Tuesday (Aug 10) by a police team from the Kedah and Taiping Criminal Investigation Departments in an operation dubbed Ops Kesan.
"The suspect was arrested at his house in Desa Aulong Utama in Taiping and was brought to Kuala Muda district police headquarters for further action," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
ACP Adzli said during the initial interrogation, the suspect admitted that he sent the messages using the Messenger application on his handphone to Muhammad Sanusi's Facebook page on Sunday (Aug 8)
ACP Adzli said the suspect claimed he had deleted the messages at about 8pm on the same day.
A handphone was confiscated from the suspect during the operation.
On Sunday, the administrator of Muhammad Sanusi's Facebook page found the messages at about 5.30pm while browsing the page at the PAS Youth office on Jalan Kuala Ketil here.
The administrator then lodged a police report.
ACP Adzli said the case was being investigated under Section 14(1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955, Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
