Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a six-part docuseries on Netflix in December 2022 which explored their private lives since stepping down as senior members of the Royal Family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex starred in the show with Liz Garbus, a filmmaker, who Meghan described as a "seasoned director whose work I've long admired".

The royal couple signed a five-year, £76 million ($100 million) contract with the streaming giant in September 2020 to produce documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows and children's programming but have only released this docuseries so far.

Royal commentator JJ Anisiobi has since claimed this cost Netflix "40 times more" than their usual rate for a documentary on the platform.

He said on TalkTV: "It was Netflix's most successful documentary but if they don't make anything else for Netflix that project would have cost Netflix about 40 times what it would cost them to make a documentary normally."

Host Kevin O'Sullivan added: "They do need to do some thinking about their way forward."

In defense of the royal couple, royal commentator Afua Hagan interjected: "They are doing that, they have pieces in the pipeline.

"It's not like they're sitting back and nothing is happening, the Invictus documentary is on its way."

It comes as writer and broadcaster Esther Krakue pointed out that after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed multi-million dollar deals with Spotify and Netflix since moving to LA, they are able to fund "three lifetimes".

She told Sky News Australia: "I don't think anyone should worry about the Sussexes being able to finance themselves. That's what happens when you sign their massive multi-million dollar deals with powerhouses like Netflix and Spotify.

"I'm sure they have a way to fund their lifestyles for three lifetimes. to come and we also have to remember that Prince Harry outside of these Hollywood deals is individually wealthy.
