Anne Saunders, 31, works in financial services and has lived in her Southampton council house for 13 years. The mum-of-two has been forced to defend herself against online trolls who say she should rent privately because she works full-time.

       Trolls said that Ms Saunders and her children should have their home “taken off her” and given to a “family in need”.

       In a TikTok video, she furiously hit back at the trolls saying: “For those who are confused, council housing is a form of affordable living and if you are given a council property you are offered a lifetime tenancy and can have the house for the rest of your life.

       “Do I agree with the system, absolutely not. However, no one in their right mind is giving up a council house to go and private rent.

       “My children are grounded in this house. I have spent money renovating it and I am not giving it up for no security.

       “People are allowed to work and have good careers and live in council properties. And then we are allowed to go and buy them with a ridiculous discount.

       “I get that people need housing and are struggling, but that’s not our fault.”

       The video racked up 50,000 views and hundred of comments, but many still claimed that people like Ms Saunders “are the problem”.

       Ms Saunders insists she doesn't mind the diversity of opinion, which was reflected in the hundreds of comments on her video.
