Meghan Markle wanted to be royal 'top dog' but that 'role was always going to be for Kate'

Prince Harry accuses William and Kate of 'stereotyping' Meghan

Meghan Markle reportedly wanted to become "top dog" within royal circles and wrongfully believed she would one day outshine Princess Kate, according to a former friend of the Duchess of Sussex.

Lizzie Cundy shared her views that Meghan wanted a greater deal of fame and was not equipped to deal with the everyday duties that come with being part of the Royal Family.

Lizzie and Meghan first became pals after meeting in 2013 at a charity dinner, three years before Meghan started dating Prince Harry and five years before they married in a lavish ceremony in Windsor.

The 55-year-old told the Mirror: "We could all see the writing was on the wall, it's very different when you're a celebrity princess than being a royal princess and frankly Meghan just wasn't up for the job.

"She didn't want to put the hard work in opening hospitals and doing all the roles that royals do, it's not easy it's not glamorous, it's not like on the red carpet.

"I think Meghan thought she was going to be the top dog star of the show and Princess Kate was always going to have that role."

Her comments echo those she made to Grazia magazine in 2021, in which she alleged that Meghan had been "open" that she "wanted fame".

Ms Cundy also addressed the split rumours that have been plaguing the Duke and Duchess, despite a friend of theirs telling Page Six: "It's not true. It's literally made up."

She told the Mirror: "I don't want to see any couples split up, when any marriage falls apart it's sad, especially when you have children."

The couple are said to be questioning their next move after the loss of their deal with Spotify last month, as the audio giant parted ways with Archewell after just one series of Meghan's podcast Archetypes.

It has also been rumoured that Harry is less happy living in California and could be tempted to return to the UK, despite his wife's protestations.

If the Sussexes were to part ways Ms Cundy argued that it could work in Harry's favour, as she believes he would be welcomed back to the UK with open arms.

She said: "Don't forget he was our most popular royal once upon a time and the people would welcome him with open arms, I really think it will be the best thing for Harry.

"Of course, it's going to be very sad and it's sad for the children. But it's time for Harry to come home."
