Excited to get stuck in and not afraid of meeting the farmyard animals, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh was "hands-on" at her latest royal engagement in Somerset at a 'Field to Food Learning Day' event.

Dressed for the occasion in a long chic navy coat, with golden detailing, and her golden locks tied up, Sophie accessorised her look with a brown leather clutch and opted for a simple make-up look with dusky eyes.

Sophie has served as Patron of the Association of Show & Agricultural Organisations since 2012 and appeared in high spirits and was all smiles for today's event.

The Duchess cooed over sheep in a pen, stroked pigs and little piglets in the hay, and studied a bee hive alongside young children learning about local produce and farm animals.

Visiting Shepton Mallet, Sophie walked around the stalls that showcased the region's best tasty treats including apples and jams.

Below, Express.co.uk shares some of the best pictures of Duchess Sophie at the 'Field to Farm Learning Day' event in Somerset below:

Always dressed suitably for the occasion, Duchess Sophie opted for a chic navy Bally jacket with golden detailing which was belted at the waist. Sophie teamed the jacket with a navy Gabriela Hearst Spencer Skirt. Opting to keep the jewellery to a minimum on such a busy day, Sophie chose round circular golden studs. Her brown boots matched her brown snakeskin Sophie Habsburg Bag.

The event was a brilliant occasion for children to look, hear, smell and get their hands dirty! Sophie encouraged children to pet and greet all the animals, during her day out in Somerset. Volunteer supporters also helped youngsters understand what the next generation of consumers thinks about farming and food.
