PETALING JAYA: Malaysian students in London have been encouraged to explore career options in the logistics and transportation industry in Malaysia.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong shared this during a “teh tarik” session with students at the Malaysian Hall in Bayswater, London.

“We exchanged views about the current affairs in our country.

“I also discussed the logistics and transportation industry in Malaysia and its importance in a bid to ensure sustainable growth of our national economy.

“I encouraged the students to explore career options in these growing sectors.

“They can always call me with questions about this sector, and I’m happy to listen and offer my advice and perspective,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

Dr Wee also informed students that the Transport Ministry’s mission to the United Kingdom is to ensure Malaysia continues to be an International Maritime Organisation (IMO) council member, a position that Malaysia has held since the 2006-2007 term.

He also explained to the students how important it is for Malaysia to keep “our voice at the table as a maritime nation”.

IMO, which has its headquarters in London, is a specialised agency under the United Nations.

It is responsible for the safety and security of shipping as well as the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships.
