ALOR GAJAH: A 20-year-old man was killed when he tried to ride a motorcycle on a trunk road for the first time here.

       Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said the victim, Taufik Hidayat Mohd Rasul, was a student in Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in Pagoh, Johor.

       It is learnt that the victim had recently obtained his driving licence and knew how to ride a motorcycle, but this was his first time on a busy trunk road.

       He said the victim was trailing his father, who was also on a motorcycle, when the accident occurred at 9.50am on Jalan Hutan Percha here on Friday (Sept 17).

       "He was learning how to ride a motorcycle on the trunk road, accompanied by his father, when the accident occurred," Supt Arshad said.

       Supt Arshad said the victim was attempting to overtake a lorry when he lost control of his machine and was run over by the heavy vehicle.

       He added that the accident was being investigated has been opened under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
