KUCHING: Politicians in Johor should focus their attention on post-pandemic economic recovery and the people's wellbeing now that the state election is over, says a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader.

The coalition's secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said this was important in order to ease the people's burden as the country transitions towards the endemic phase of Covid-19.

"I hope Opposition politicians will also play their check-and-balance role while shouldering the responsibility of upholding the people's wellbeing.

"The people of Johor have made their choice and everyone should respect it. Let us put aside our differences and focus on what is more important," he said in a statement on Monday (March 14).

Nanta also congratulated Barisan Nasional on its big victory in the polls, saying this would enable the coalition to form a strong and stable state government.

"This is key in planning the state's development and passing important resolutions in the state legislative assembly.

"The people of Johor can now look forward to a smooth administration for their wellbeing and economic recovery," he added.

Barisan won 40 seats in the March 12 election to secure a two-thirds majority in the state assembly, while Pakatan Harapan took 12 seats, Perikatan Nasional three and Muda one.
