Part of Third Street NW near the Mall was closed Tuesday evening near the end of the traffic rush hour for an investigation, the D.C. police said.

       The section involved runs between Constitution Avenue and D Street NW.

       Police said alternate routes included E Street, Pennsylvania Avenue and Louisiana Avenue.
