A furious Wakefield resident expressed her frustration over the Government's failure to deliver on electoral pledges to improve the railway network across the North of England. Boris Johnson U-turned on the proposed eastern leg of HS2 has been cut back, with Transport Secretary Grant Shapps confirming on Thursday the construction of the branch will not go ahead.
“They can get everything.”
The reporter chipped in: “And Boris Johnson won the hearts of the red wall of Wakefield..”
The passer-by continued: “By saying we would get high-speed trains and lots of things they promised.
“Better buses.
Trains will then continue to Nottingham, Derby, Chesterfield and Sheffield on the existing mainline.
The Government’s explanation for these revised plans is that they will still cut journey times rather than sticking to previous commitments to construct vast new infrastructure.
