SEGAMAT: The government will hold a special Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (Jan 5) to discuss the possibility of a second wave of floods and post-flood measures.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Cabinet would also be briefed on the report from another meeting he chaired on Monday (Jan 3) with all mentris besar and chief ministers of the country as well as the Inspector-General of Police and Armed Forces commander.

“In the task force meeting on Monday, we discussed facing a possible second wave of floods and post-flood actions,” he said on Tuesday (Jan 4), adding that the conclusions from the meeting would be brought to the Cabinet on Wednesday.

He added that the Health Ministry is expected to brief the Cabinet about the Covid-19 situation in the country in relation to the Omicron variant as well as other matters including umrah (pilgrimage).

“The ministry will also provide suggestions and actions to be taken to handle the matter.

“We will get a clearer picture about that tomorrow,” he told a press conference after visiting the Kampung Tandong flood relief centre here.

Ismail Sabri emphasised that any actions taken by the Health Ministry were to safeguard the people.

Earlier, he handed financial aid to 26 families at the relief centre and listened to a briefing by the Johor Irrigation and Drainage Department.
