KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin is expected to make an announcement on Monday (Aug 16), says Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof.

       The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said that the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia meeting on Sunday (Aug 15) would be to discuss what could happen should the prime minister resign.

       "We wait until tomorrow," he told reporters after a two-hour meeting at Publika here on Sunday involving top brass from Bersatu.

       Mohd Redzuan said that the Prime Minister had explored "the very last option" in the interest of the people.

       He also criticised certain "irresponsible parties", saying that the Federal Constitution must be observed and followed at all times.

       "Now it depends on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to ensure that the country has leaders that prioritise the welfare of the rakyat," he said.

       Muhyiddin is expected to seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Monday (Aug 16), with intense speculation that he is stepping down as prime minister.

       Top Cabinet sources said the Prime Minister had already informed Perikatan Nasional government leaders and officials of his intention at a meeting here on Saturday (Aug 14).
