KLANG: in a heartwarming Valentine's Day Facebook post, Datuk Lee Chong Wei says he considered his wife Datin Wong Mew Choo to be "a superwoman" after seeing what she went through during her pregnancies.
"She had to check her diet. She had to change her lifestyle. She had to make sure Baby grew well in the womb," the badminton icon said of his spouse, also a former national shuttler.
She also had to "soak up" advice received from friends and relatives, some of which made sense while some did not.
Regardless, he added, Wong managed her pregnancies all on her own.
Lee reminisced how, after he had been a fixture like a "flower pot" during all of Wong's pre-natal appointments, her obstetrician asked him if he was ready for his wife's cesarean delivery and if he would be able to cut the umbilical cord.
"I murmured to myself, how dare he look down on me when I cut broken badminton strings so many times in my life? Potong saja ape susah (just cut, what's the big deal)?" Lee wrote on Monday (Feb 14).
When the day finally came and Wong delivered their son Kingston, Lee said he realised how much she loved him to go through so much.
"I must be very handsome for her to love me so much," he quipped.
Finally, when the time arrived for him to cut the umbilical cord, Lee said he turned to jelly the moment he held the scissors.
He marvelled how Wong carried the baby steadily for nine months as opposed to him not even being able to hold a pair of scissors to cut the umbilical cord.
"Salute.
"I would like to take this chance to tell my wife how much she means to me and my family.
"Without her, there won't be me and my two boys.
"Happy Valentine's Day," said Lee.
