SEREMBAN: Forty-one students at Politeknik Nilai near here tested positive for Covid-19 in recent days, says state health exco member S. Veerapan.
He said the cluster was detected on Dec 8 after several students tested positive.
"Eleven students were initially tested positive after they underwent screening between Dec 3 and 6.
"As of today (Dec 15), 440 students and close contacts had been screened, and 399 were found to be negative for Covid-19," he said in a statement.
He said 14 individuals who had tested positive earlier had been allowed to go home after receiving treatment.
"Ten have been sent to the Tampin Quarantine and Treatment Centre; one admitted to hospital and the remaining students have been housed in a hostel at the polytechnic," he said.
Another 38 close contacts have also been quarantined at another block at the polytechnic.
Separately, Veerapan said 10 members of a family in Broga tested positive for the virus.
He said two individuals later returned to their home in Kg Broga and another three went back to theirs in Semenyih, Selangor.
"They came into close contact with nine other individuals and not as 40 as mentioned in a message which went viral," said Veerapan.
"Those who had tested positive have also been sent to the Tampin PKRC for treatment," he added, saying that their condition was stable.
