KOTA KINABALU: The new Cabinet line-up is a reflection of the "Malaysian Family" and will meet the people's aspirations, says Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin.

He said the appointment of six leaders from Sabah – two ministers and four deputy ministers – was recognition to the people from the state.

Bung, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister, hoped that the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob would prove to be a credible and united team working for the people in overcoming Covid-19 pandemic and economic issues.

"We are aware that people are struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic under very challenging times. People have high hopes for this new Cabinet," said Bung, who is also Sabah Umno chairman, in a statement on Friday (Aug 27).

Bung said the success of the Cabinet would depend on the cooperation of all, and ministers must play their roles responsibly and transparently.

"We also hope that the new Cabinet will have new ideas and swift actions to be implemented immediately," he said.

Bung also welcomed the appointment of Sabah Umno's Kimanis MP Datuk Mohamad Alamin as Deputy Education Minister II.

He said the appointment of Mohamad would assist in focusing on issues and needs of education in Sabah.

He also welcomed the appointment of Barisan's Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) deputy president Datuk Arthur Kurup as Deputy Works Minister.

"This appointment will help build a bridge between the Works Ministry and state ministry to meet the needs of urgent infrastructure development such as water supply, roads and others that are still lacking in Sabah," he added.

In a Facebook post, former minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said that everyone should respect the Prime Minister's Cabinet line-up.

"When the situation stabilises, we can then return the mandate to the people," said Salleh, who is Usukan assemblyman.
