IPOH: Police in Hilir Perak are conducting a search and rescue operation for a 36-year-old man who has been missing for two days.
Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Adnan Basri said Jefri Ismail, from Taman Desa Maju Perak in Langkap near Teluk Intan, was said to have gone missing at about 1pm on Tuesday (Oct 5).
"The man’s wife noticed he was not at home that day and he also did not answer her calls. At about 8am on Wednesday, her brother-in-law found Jefri's motorcycle and mobile phone near an oil palm estate in Alor Bakong," he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 7).
"They failed to locate him and the wife lodged a missing persons report on Wednesday (Oct 6) after he did not return home," he added.
ACP Ahmad Adnan said according to the wife, Jefri had been talking to himself and even told her that he heard voices around him.
"The man was suffering from depression for about a month," he said, adding that Jefri has been married for 12 years and has two children, aged 10 and 11.
He said the search for Jefri was still ongoing with the help of the Fire and Rescue department and Civil Defence Force.
"The estate is about 80ha in size and is connected to the Chikus Forest Reserve," he said, adding that the motorcycle was found about 3km from Jefri's house.
