RESIDENTS in a picture postcard village fear it will be "invaded" by “undesirable ravers” if an underground music festival goes ahead.

       Hightown Village is one of Merseyside's more desirable post code's with period properties, hanging baskets and manicured lawns.

       But now some residents fear all of this is under threat if the drum and bass One in the Woods festival goes ahead.

       The organisers behind the three day festival at Orrell Hill woods now want to vary the existing license , which had sparked concern amongst locals. The new license would allow them to sell booze from 8am to 11pm.

       Locals are fed up with the festival and worry the new license will make matters worse, according to the Liverpool Echo.

       A veteran resident, who said they had lived in the village for over 75 years, said “We don’t need the likes of this to bring our lovely village down.”

       One person living in the village spoke of “undesirable ravers” who they feared “would invade our quiet, little village.”

       Another resident spoke of vibrations “felt all over the village” at previous events and concerns at drunken, violent behaviour.

       One resident said the bass heavy music was a particular problem. They added: "The thumping bass and other electronic frequencies cut into everything you try to do, you can’t watch TV or read a book because it gets to the point where you can’t hear anything other than the annoying thump, thump, thump that goes on hour after hour.”

       One concerned resident accused festival bosses of "exploiting rural communities". He was also worried about the effect of noise on nearby horses.

       The matter is set to be discussed at Sefton Council's licensing committee on July 26.

       The Sun approached Sefton Council and the festival organisers for comment.
