Meghan Markle and Prince Harry looked delighted to be reunited with one another as the Duchess made her first appearance at the Invictus Games 2023, having landed from Los Angeles earlier this afternoon.

The Sussexes looked dapper in black as they attended a glitzy reception for 1,600 athletes and their friends and family in Düsseldorf, the host city for this year's Games.

Meghan wore a black Banana Republic gown, with sources saying she had less than an hour to get ready after arriving at the Hyatt Regency hotel following her long journey across the pond.

The couple were invited to spend the evening enjoying traditional German food, music and entertainment, with Meghan addressing the crowd in a two minute speech, in which she apologised for missing the previous three days of the Games.

She explained she had to get her children "settled down" before she could fly out, particularly Prince Archie as he had to be dropped off at school.

Holding a microphone, she said: "Hi everybody. It is so special to be here and I'm sorry I'm a little late to the party.

"Like so many of you, you know this is about family and friends and the community that Invictus has created and Fisher House has created, and so I had to spend a little bit more time getting the little ones settled at home

"Three milkshakes and a school drop off and I just landed a couple of hours ago and I am thrilled that the first event I can do for Invictus is here with all of you."

The Fisher House Foundation is a non-profit organisation which provides a support system and a place to stay for the families of veterans while a loved one is on hospital.

The reception attended by Meghan and Harry was hosted by the company's CEO and Chairman Ken Fisher and the President of the Foundation, Dave Coker.

Unlike Meghan, Harry did not want to address the guests, as he replied when she offered him the microphone: "You don't need to hear from me again."

At last Saturday's Invictus Games opening ceremony the Duke took the opportunity to speak to those assembled in German, partially echoing JFK's famous 1963 speech when he declared: "Ich bin ein Düsseldorfer."
