IPOH: A policeman has claimed trial to two counts of receiving RM250 in bribes from a man involved in a khalwat (close proximity) case.

Lans Koperal Abdul Hadi Bin Abu Bakar, 28, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before Sessions Court Judge S. Indra Nehru here on Monday (July 26).

Abdul Hadi, represented by counsel Sheikh Mohd Nasir Sheikh Mohd Sharif, allegedly committed the offences on Dec 30, 2019 and Jan 5, 2020.

According to the charge sheet, Abdul Hadi, while on patrol at the parking lot of Taman D.R. Seenivasagam here at 2am on Dec 30, 2019, had come across a couple involved in khalwat, and allegedly received RM50 from one Muhammad Hafizuldin Hamzah, 25, as an inducement not to bring the man and his partner to the police station.

For the second charge on Jan 5, 2020, Abdul Hadi had allegedly received a further RM200 from the same man behind a restaurant on Jalan Kamaruddin Isa at Taman Fair Park at about 12.30pm for not pursuing the case.

He was charged under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Maziyah Mansor.

Indra set bail at RM5,000 for both charges with one surety, and fixed Oct 28 for next mention.
