PETALING JAYA: Former Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) commissioner Datin Dr Mehrun Siraj passed away early Tuesday (June 29) at her home here.
Mehrun, who was 75, was the wife of former Malaysian Bar president Sulaiman Abdullah.
Her son playwright and actor Huzir Sulaiman said his mother had many serious medical conditions and has spent the last year with multiple long admissions in hospital, with her condition declining.
“While my mother was always immensely brave and cheerful about her medical issues, the last two months have been particularly difficult for her, and I am relieved that she is no longer suffering,” he said.
He added the funeral rites will take place on Tuesday in accordance with Islamic practice, and will be held in compliance with prevailing Covid-19 regulations.
Dr Merhun, a former professor of law, also served as an advocate, solicitor, and consultant for UN agencies.
