She initially threw a bottle in self-defence when he approached her and two friends walking back from the shops, before they struggled over the hammer, footage above shows.
He later made jabbing motions towards her with the knife in Middleton, Greater Manchester, last September.
Nash texted her two days before the attack: “You pass this gaff and I’ll drive out and smash your f***ing teeth all over the pavement.”
An hour later he burst out of his flat and pushed another woman, who was friends with the victim, into bushes when she walked home, the Manchester Evening News reported.
They had been friends but fell out when Nash made suggestive remarks to her.
He used to drive the woman, who lived on her estate, and her two friends to the train station.
Nash, formerly of Middleton, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and weapon offences at Minshull Street crown court.

He was jailed for two-and-a-half years and has a three-year restraining order banning him from contacting the three women for three years.
Recorder Neil Usher said: "This was a disgraceful incident, it was cowardly.
"It was premeditated and you were armed at the time. She was a defenceless, unarmed woman who had done nothing to provoke you on that particular occasion.
"She must have been terrified.
"Nothing that happened two days before in that off-licence, or in the history of ill feeling between you, in any way mitigates your actions."
David Bruce, defending, said Nash had no intention of returning to the area and had shown remorse.
