KUALA LUMPUR: Scholarships worth RM893,000 were recently awarded to seven students enrolled in the MSc in Drilling Engineering programme at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) for the January 2022 intake by Baker Hughes, Velesto Energy Berhad and Petronas.
UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Ts. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said in a statement that UTP was very appreciative of their industry partners in support of the university in developing future skilled workforce for the industry.
"The industry’s support signifies a good rapport and cooperation between UTP and the industries in line with our aspiration to become internationally recognised as a partner of choice for industries and scientific communities," he added.
The statement said two students were awarded Yayasan UTP-Baker Hughes and Yayasan UTP-Velesto Energy Berhad scholarships worth RM117,000 and RM126,000 respectively, while Petronas sponsored five students with scholarships worth RM650,000.
UTP’s MSc in Drilling Engineering programme provides its graduates with enhanced knowledge and skills that meet the oil and gas industrial demand in the areas of drilling engineering as well as research and development scientific bodies.
With UTP’s affiliation to Petronas, the programme offers students the opportunity of having a multi delivery system which heavily involves key industry players with the latest technology updates.
To mark this occasion, a mock cheque presentation of the scholarships was held at UTP's campus and present at the event were Mohamed Ibrahim; Petronas Head of Wells Technology and Technical Assurance, Jumasri Terimo; Baker Hughes Vice President of Asia Pacific Oilfield Services, Fadi Al-Jafari; Velesto Energy Berhad President Rohaizad Darus and Yayasan UTP Board of Trustees Member Anwarudin Saidu Mohamed.
