MELAKA: Police have rescued a five-year-old girl from the clutches of her abusive mother and her 38-year-old boyfriend.

       State CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Sukri Kaman said acting on a tip-off, police raided a house in Bandar Hilir at about 10.45pm on Saturday.

       “We were alerted of a possible abuse case involving a child around 9.25pm.

       “The police were deployed immediately to carry out an inspection on the occupants of the house.

       “Initial investigations showed the young victim had injuries after she was believed to have been assaulted repeatedly with a belt and hands,” he said.

       ACP Mohd Sukri said the victim was sent to the Melaka Hospital for a thorough check-up after being rescued from her suspected abusers.

       “The victim has an 18-month-old sibling staying in the same house,” he said.

       ACP Mohd Sukri said the male suspect was detained at the Bandar Hilir police station after he was called in for questioning yesterday.

       “The victim’s 30-year-old mother was arrested at her house several hours later.

       “Both suspects have been remanded until Aug 21 to assist in the investigation,” he said.
