MELAKA: Two brothers and their girlfriends are among seven people arrested by Melaka Tengah police for allegedly being involved in a series of house break-ins and carjacking here.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the suspects - aged 31 to 43 - were detained following separate raids in Johor Baru and Kuala Lumpur between March 7 and April 12.
"The gang was led by a 32-year-old with the nickname ‘Adib Don Camel’ with four female gang members,” he said on Wednesday (April 13).
He said a task force was set up by Melaka Tengah police following several reports received on house break-ins, as well as vehicle thefts on March 6 and March 7 that involved losses amounting to RM245,100.
"The gang had been active since the beginning of this year and would normally rent cars to stage their robberies in other states," he said.
ACP Christopher Patit said the gang was very organised including assigning one person to collect information on their target before staging the break-ins.
He said police are believed to have solved six cases in neighbouring states and Melaka.
ACP Christopher Patit said five of the suspects had previous criminal records, including drug abuse.
He said police had also confiscated three vehicles, handbags and various equipment used for carjacking.
"All of them are currently under remand," he added.
