PETALING JAYA: A date has been set for the much-anticipated debate between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Datuk Seri Najib Razak over the Sapura Energy Bhd issue.
Selangor Umno information chief Isham Jalil confirmed that the date and other information would be announced soon.
"Both sides have agreed with the date of the debate and other related information will be announced by both sides during a joint press conference within a day or two," he said in a Facebook post on Friday (April 15).
Meanwhile, Isham told news portal Free Malaysia Today that the joint press conference is expected to be held on Sunday (April 17).
Anwar had previously said that he was prepared to face Najib in a debate without any conditions.
The Port Dickson MP and Opposition leader had also urged that the debate should be open to all media outlets to allow the public to make their own judgments.
Najib had also said that he was willing to participate in the debate.
The former prime minister had previously asked the representatives of Anwar and former PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli to arrange for the debate to be televised if any broadcaster was interested in doing so.
