KLANG: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Amirudin Shari tested positive for Covid-19.
A statement released by the Mentri Besar's media secretariat said Amirudin tested positive following a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test conducted on Tuesday (March 1).
"He will undergo a seven-day self-quarantine in accordance with the health protocol set by the Health Ministry and is expected to return to work on March 8," said the statement.
It added Amirudin apologised for any inconvenience that may have arisen due to the turn of events.
The Mentri Besar has also requested all those who had come into contact with him the last 48 hours to undergo Covid-19 screening.
Meanwhile, a state government source said several people, including some MPs and assemblymen, tested positive for Covid-19 upon their return from Johor after a retreat for Selangor's elected representatives on Feb 21 and 22.
Some Selangor state officials and state executive councillors had also attended another retreat in Langkawi later the same week.
The Selangor Legislative Assembly has been scheduled to convene from March 15 to 25.
