SEREMBAN: Five youths have been arrested after a video clip showing them revving their motorcycle engines, disrupting traffic and creating a nuisance in public went viral.
OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Said Ibrahim said the suspects, aged between 19 and 28, were detained in an operation on Tuesday (Aug 31).
He said police believed the incident took place near a housing scheme in Bandar Seremban Selatan.
"We are also checking if the youths are involved in any criminal activities," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 1).
Checks on social media showed there were at least five such recordings of the incident with the shortest being 15 seconds and the longest running for 90 seconds.
According to ACP Mohd Said, the five suspects would be investigated under Section 48(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing danger, obstructing traffic or causing inconvenience to other road users.
He said their machines were also seized under Section 60(1) of the same Act for inspection.
"The suspects will also be issued compound notices for violating the standard operating procedure (SOP) under Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan," he said, adding that urine tests on the suspects all came back negative for drugs.
ACP Mohd Said also reminded the public to strictly observe SOP, as well as traffic rules, for common safety.
